July 4th already... whoa, where does time go? Coming at mid-week, it didn’t really feel like a holiday for me… hope you all enjoyed the day off and had time to remember the independence and freedom that is the spirit and soul of all of us.
Have you entered the twilight zone?
Life is more than being yourself, it's creating yourself.
Are you stuck in the twilight zone of mental comfort—that set of habits that slip below our radar to become behaviors. Even though we don’t consciously think about them, they still determine what we “think and do.”
Have you noticed that these unconscious habits and behaviors hit us at our weakest point—fear. Fear can even come up with reasons to stay within our comfort zone that seem reasonable to us. These reasons work for us at some level, they think they keep us safe. Now, I’m not talking about healthy fear, the fear of walking in front of a moving train is reasonable—but what about those irrational fears, like the fear of success that hold you back from reaching your full potential?
Consider that even the most successful habits eventually lose their usefulness as you grow and your life changes. See the world as it is now and determine what fresh responses would work better, now. Are you clinging to behaviors long after their benefit has gone? Past strategies are bound to fail at some point. Letting automatic habits and behaviors take you down the path into the twilight zone of comfort is a sure road to boredom and frustration and all of its self-inflicted pain.
There’s a big, bright, wonderful world out there just waiting to be explored. Breathe, reflect, and be open to change. Peek outside your twilight zone for a fresh view on life.
Do something—almost anything—differently. Enjoy what happens.
