Best Impressions Newsletter

March 8, 2007 Vol 1 Issue 10 update
Good Thursday to all!

BREATHE-it could be worse...

It could be worse... Jerry Seinfeld once commented “That at a funeral, most people would rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy.” Not me, not with all my non-verbal cues reminding me to BREATHE! Amazing what a little air will do.

Yesterday was the day— Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero’s Sterling Club teleseminar for my new book,“Mark-it with your Brand”. Have to admit, I was a tad nervous before the call. So I did a few little non-verbal reminders to keep me “up” for the call.

Had a mirror on the desk to remind me to SMILE, it does come across in your voice even if they can't see it. Had my post-it note to remind myself to BREATHE. Yup, I know I would breathe automatically, but having enough air in your lungs enhances the quality of your voice. Had my pillow on my chair to remind me to SIT UP straight, allowing myself to breathe deep—can't get much air in the lungs if you are hunched over. All that air made my mind and reflexes sharper, improved my energy, and added color to the old cheeks.

Non-verbal cues can help us in many areas of our lives. Make a list of the items you think will make you feel better in certain situations. Don't be afraid to experiment. You never know ‘til you try… Send your non-verbal cue ideas to me and I’ll post them so we can all feel better together! Speaking of feeling better...

Update: On the close friend of almost 30 years—he had successful surgery on Tuesday. All looks good at this point. Thank you all for your notes and good wishes. I have forwarded them to him.

Have a great day in whatever your adventure,
To Success! To Life!
Sharon

No Choice is still a choice...

Where are your choices taking you?

Every choice you make moves you closer to or farther away from your goals. There is always a trade-off. A client knew she had to make a decision, but seemed frozen. The deadline was looming yet she kept going on and on about why she couldn't do something, when in reality, she could have done it in a number of ways if she had chosen to.

She had the skills and knowledge to do the assignment, yet she could not make a choice to break the large project into a series of smaller, "doable" steps... so the deadline came and went and she lost the project!

I tried hard to be sympathic when she called to say she lost the BIG JOB. I didn't do a good job at that—my choice...

Decision-making techniques are numerous—simply list pros and cons or you can talk to friends and family. My favorite when making an important choice is a SWOT analysis for each option [strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and threats download a SWOT worksheet]. In business or personal, it helps you take best advantage of your talents, abilities and opportunities. It can put problems into perspective. Or, whatever decision-making technique works for you, use it!
