Best Impressions Newsletter

February 8 , 2007 Vol 1 Issue 5
Good Thursday to all!

That “4-Letter Word” article must have hit on something a lot of us must find bothersome. If you missed it you can find it in the back issues section. I got lots of responses back. Thanks! Love to hear from you. We are here to create success together!

Lola dropped me a note that she uses a Gantt chart. Great idea too!

Jim of JDA Creative Color set up the bulletin board and reports back, "I took your idea of the index cards on the wall. Now I just need the time to work on the projects without getting called away...." He sent a picture (below) and at the bottom is a tiny little fortune from a cookie. I circled the fortune in red. It reads "Now is the time to set your sights high and go for it." LOL! So, this week's focus is on how to get started.

To Success!
Sharon

No BUTS Allowed. Five steps to the finish line.

Impression Engineers’ “START” Method

    1. Solution: Why are we doing this? Define the purpose or solution you need.

    2. Target: What are we developing? As Covey says, “Begin with the end in mind.”

    3. Accomplish: How do we accomplish? Start by viewing the project from beyond the completion date and work backwards breaking down the steps, components and subcomponents. Capture all the features, aspects, and qualities you imagine in place.

    4. Resolve: When do we do these things? After identifying the components even down to the subcomponents, sequences, events, and/or priorities, what must happen and in what order? Place your components in a logical order and then GET STARTED! (Nothing is written in stone, you can always go back and recover a step or two.) The bulletin board and index cards work well at this step for organizing projects.

    5. TahDah: What will the “TahDah It's here!” moment look, sound, or feel like? No "Yeah, but..." allowed.

If you would like the complete START method, just drop me a note. I'll be happy to forward it to you.

"Begin with the End in Mind. We are more in need of a vision or destination, and less in need of a map. Leaders create their own destiny by following their internal compass. They make their life a mission, not just a career." —Stephen Covey
