Trust, privacy and security online

Trust, privacy and security online are important concerns for all companies on the web, especially small companies.  A sense of trust is important to any relationship especially online companies (websites). Take time to develop and establish confidence and trust on your site. Offer guarantees, make it easy to contact you and have aa posted privacy policy.

Online shoppers have become skeptical—with good reason. Supply proof that your site is trustworthy. A good way to do this is join "eTrust" or the "Better Business Bureau (BBB)." Acquire a SSL certificate for your web site. Create a secure online ordering site for customers credit card orders. Be upfront with the information that build trusts and confidence on your site, especially on the home page and product page.

Some customers just will not place an order online with their credit card, no matter how secure it is. Provide a toll-free telephone order number or fax number and a downloadable order form on your site that they can print, fill out, and fax or mail to you.

Be sure and include a privacy policy on your site that lets customers know that personal information is kept confidential. A good, well written, non-legalese privacy policy should be easily accessible by visitors to your website. Note, if you use Google Analytics be sure your site includes an online privacy policy. It is a requirement in your agreement to use Google Analytics on your site.

Get this book!

My good friend, Gary Phillips got some great news this week! His book has been released…

It’s called, The Art of Safety. Don’t be misled by the title though. It’s true, Gary’s background is in optimal safety performance for major corporations, however, in this book, Gary has seamlessly blended advanced communication concepts into the world of corporate leadership, personnel management and his passion for occupational safety—an absolute treasure trove of practical tools for every business leader.

I was lucky enough to read the manuscript and even back then I told Gary, this was a needed manual on corporate communication and leadership.  I told him I’d do him a favor and help spread the word. Why? Well, because his first book is simply ground-breaking and filled with immediately useful information.

Here’s a link to grab it — www.artofsafety.net

By the way, this is not an affiliate promotion (not that there’s anything wrong with those). I just want you to know I don’t make a penny off of letting you know about this book. I truly believe it benefits you to own it, read it, and practice it.

Google Analytics 101

Google Analytics is a  very powerful market analysis tool. It’s a lot of info about your website — best of all it’s free…

Impression Engineers latest White Paper - a step by step guide to setup your Google Analytics account

Google Analytics is a powerful tool for monitoring all aspects of your website’s traffic and activity. As powerful as it is, it can be used at all web and marketing skill levels for feedback and information.

You can track your website(s) even if you are not running an AdWords Campaign. It will track where visitors come from, visitor flow through your site, the source of referrals, and even track how well visitors make it through your conversion process such as a landing page to purchase or opt-in option. It can also track non-AdWords advertising such as banner ads and other pay-per-click programs.

Three reasons why you too should blog…

Do you blog yet?  (If not, comment below, let’s get you started…)

The majority of the client sites we do today are in the blog format. The benefits of the blog format are many, but the one I appreciate the most is the ability to update the site from anywhere there is an Internet connection, even here from the “lovely” Newark International Airport… more about that on my next blog post…

Now, I wanted to share my top three reasons why all small businesses should blog:

1.) Besides the ease of updating, I love the ease of use. No need to have any advanced IT experience; if you know any of the current word processing programs you can blog. You can post graphics and pictures on a blog, but blogs really are a written medium. An important caveat: If you don’t like to write, you might not like blogging.
