Not always the Intention…

Last week, I attended an advanced Presentation Workshop. We were to give a presentation while the group acted as our audience. At times, "the audience" asked questions. Some of the questions surprised me. I did not think they had a specific relationship to my presentation. I realized, after reflection, the audience received a different central point than what I intended.

Basic ABCs of Intentions: ambiguity, beliefs, and contradictions

Regardless of our intention, there may be more than one answer. Think of all those "Yeah, but…" and "What if…" times. Ambiguity, beliefs, and contradictions exist everywhere, in spite of our desire for clarity.

They can be caused by thoughts and feelings, unresolved emotions, ignored life lessons, outdated information, or by external forces wanting us to not change, change, or believe they way they do.

Get this book!

My good friend, Gary Phillips got some great news this week! His book has been released…

It’s called, The Art of Safety. Don’t be misled by the title though. It’s true, Gary’s background is in optimal safety performance for major corporations, however, in this book, Gary has seamlessly blended advanced communication concepts into the world of corporate leadership, personnel management and his passion for occupational safety—an absolute treasure trove of practical tools for every business leader.

I was lucky enough to read the manuscript and even back then I told Gary, this was a needed manual on corporate communication and leadership.  I told him I’d do him a favor and help spread the word. Why? Well, because his first book is simply ground-breaking and filled with immediately useful information.

Here’s a link to grab it — www.artofsafety.net

By the way, this is not an affiliate promotion (not that there’s anything wrong with those). I just want you to know I don’t make a penny off of letting you know about this book. I truly believe it benefits you to own it, read it, and practice it.

A fish in water doesn’t know its water…*

The other day, I caught myself saying; “If I can do it, anybody can do it.” That may or may not be true… but that isn’t really the point… the point is, that all too often we become so familiar with our talents and skills that we overlook the true value we and our skills and talents have.

In large part, those strengths, skills, talents, and abilities that make us unique, are the ones we tend to undervalue the most. They come easily to us. We are so familiar with them, that we do not place value on them.** All too often we overvalue the talents of others… in the grass is always greener syndrome…

Familiarity doesn’t breed contempt, it breeds indifference.

There are logical reasons why we tend to be indifferent and undervalue our own skills, talents, and abilities and overvalue those of others. We learn from the time we are very young to use compare and contrast as a way of learning and understanding the world. Many times, we judge our worth on the compare and contrast method. Unfortunately, we sell ourselves short all too often.

Life is a grand adventure.

Sorry this is a little late today, I have a good “excuse." Really I do. Today’s my birthday! Yup, that is the reason it is late. So, maybe you are going “big deal” but what has amazed me again this year is, my family and friends are the greatest! I’ve been to breakfast with friends, lunch with my sister, and tonight sushi with family and friends, and last night was a fun event… I had no idea the day would turn out like it did, it just happened. I need a whole year to recover now as this day draws to a close.

Well, about last night. Every year, for my birthday I challenge myself to a new adventure — one that I “normally” would not consider, last year it was pole dancing. I love it. It is an amazing workout.

Last night, ten of my gal friends gathered up their courage and we went to the Pilates and pole studio. We had a great time. Those brave gals did great. Some had anxiety about it but all took that leap of faith and were open to new adventures.

You have the power to Be. Seize it.
